The Junkers Ju-52 was a transport aircraft and bomber manufactured from 1932 – 1945 by Junkers. It saw both military and civilian service during the 1930s and 1940s. In a civilian role, it flew with well over a dozen air carriers, including British Airways and Lufthansa. Junkers Ju-52/3m D-CDLH is painted as D-AQUI in historic Lufthansa colours (the livery this plane wore in 1936). To improve performance, it was re-engined with Pratt Whitney engines and fitted with 3-bladed propellers. In 1984, Lufthansa bought the Ju-52 from a private owner in the USA and brought her back to her homeland. With its real registration D-CDLH, this Ju-52 is operated today by Lufthansa for pleasure flights around Europe, giving enthusiasts a taste of 1930s air travel.
