The Rubicon was another one of the hopeful designs for the $10 million dollar Ansari X PRIZE that was a contest to jump-start the space tourism industry through competition among the most talented entrepreneurs and rocket experts in the world. Its name comes from the popular idiom, Crossing the Rubicon, that means to go past a point of no return (space). It may not have won the ultimate prize but the team and this rocket are winners in our eyes and will be in yours as well. The Estes 1:12 scale model stands almost 23 inches tall. It's quite an impressive model on the launch pad with equally impressive launch flights. Working closely with the Space Transport Corporation, Estes' designers were able to recreate all of the unique, full-size design features of this X PRIZE contender. This Skill Level 1 kit features superior quality Estes body tubes, a molded body tube mount, molded rocket motor detail, molded fins, a huge molded scale nose cone and colorful self-stick X PRIZE decals for an authentic look. When powered with a D engine, this scale model can reach altitudes of over 450 feet. The Rubicon is returned from its flight on an 18 inch preassembled parachute. This mighty rocket is huge and is an impressive flyer any scale rocketeer should have in his collection. Building tools, finishing supplies, Estes engines, launch supplies and four AA batteries (for your controller) are needed - sold separately. Requires 3/16 inch Maxi launch rod (#302244) - sold separately.
