Fly the first private spaceship to reach space! The SpaceShipOne model rocket faithfully reproduces the winner of the Ansari X PRIZE. This 1:30 scale model has all of the same high flying characteristics as the original, but a more economical cost per flight! The SpaceShipOne was the brain child of Burt Rutan of Scaled Composites, a world leading, airplane design company. His creative mind developed the Model 76 Voyager, the first airplane to fly solo around the world without stopping or refueling. With Burt's extraordinary approach to composite airframes, it's not a surprise that his SpaceShipOne achieved the goal of reaching 100 km above the earth (space) from a ground take off and landing to win the coveted Ansari X PRIZE award of $10 million dollars. Working closely with Scaled Composites, Estes' designers were able to replicate every detail and square inch of this incredible rocket plane. Armed with detailed dimensions and images, the SpaceShipOne model is as accurate as you could wish for. When powered with a standard Estes engine, this scale model can reach altitudes of over 400 feet, which is a little bit less than the real aircraft can get to. This space plane is returned from its flight on a 12 inch preassembled parachute. This Skill Level 2 kit has many features that make a fairly easy build, including laser cut balsa wings and fins, detailed molded nose and tail cones, die cut assembly jig and a complete decal set for an authentic look. You'll need more skill in building and painting to build the SpaceShipOne. Building tools, finishing supplies, Estes engines and launch supplies also required - sold separately.
