Graf Ferdinand Von Zeppelin began his work with giant airships as early as 1874. The Graf Zeppelin made its first trip to the United States in 1928. Carrying 63 people and cargo, it averaged 56.6 miles per hour. The Graf Zeppelin made its last flight to South America in 1938 and was retired and dismantled in 1939.
