The Maine Peapod originated along the East Coast in the late 1800’s as a work boat for working lobster traps. The double-ended shape of the Peapod made it excellent for maneuvering around the rocky shores that larger boats could not get close to. The Peapod's were used commercially until the 1930’s, when modern diesel lobster boats replaced them.
