The Pinewood Derby is a long-standing tradition of the Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. In preparation for this event, the Cub Scouts and their parents fashion special Pinewood Derby cars from blocks of wood. Usually Pine Wood Derby car kits contain a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axels. The rest is up to the family. The finished car must use all 9 pieces in the kit and must fit weight and length specifications. The event was intended to bring sons and fathers (or mother or other guardian) closer together.
