The early 1970's saw the end of the muscle car era and their large displacement V8 engines. No longer able to use horsepower as a selling tool, the auto company executives looked away from the engineers and instead to the designers. The new GM lineup of mid-size cars for 1973 featured colonnade styling and while the public debated what colonnade meant, the newly sculptured lines of the Monte Carlo found wide acceptance in the marketplace, becoming a best-seller. Of the five years that featured this styling, many feel the '77 Monte Carlo was the best looking of them all.
