Chevrolet stunned the automotive world when they unveiled the all-new 1963 Corvette. Besides adding a new surname-Sting Ray-the new Vette featured a new chassis with independent rear suspension for better handling. The big news that everyone talked about was the gorgeous new fiberglass body. At a time when new American cars usually had more shiny chrome plate than most kitchens, the Corvette mercifully had a minimum of brightwork. With its sharp edges and futuristic looking flip-around hidden headlamps, the new Sting Ray could compete with almost any other new car in the world.
