The Biber (Beaver) bridge-laying tank, based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 main battle tank, was introduced to the troops in 1973. The bridge spans were laid flat (free projecting front section), as compared with the previously used systems such as the folding or scissors bridge of the M48, offering a flat silhouette that did not advertise the presence of the bridge assault over long distances. The Biber can bridge over a 20 meter obstacle within 2-3 minutes and it does not take much longer to remove it. For wider obstacles 2 bridges can be laid to overlap. The 2-man crew (driver and commander) can control the whole procedure from the tank where they remain well protected. Model details: Front laying arm with movable hydraulic system; Rear laying arm can be attached in any working position; Front support blade can be attached in any position; Bridge spans can be linked and moved on the front arm rollers; Injection moulded tracks; and Decals for 4 versions.
