The ground assault helicopter Mi-24D (Hind D) first flew in 1972. The rather heavier Mi-24V (Hind E) equipped with the SPS-24V control system for AT-6 missiles to combat armored vehicle targets was produced between 1976 and 1986. With a weapon load of up to 2 tons both versions have enormous fire power. The whole of the front fuselage is armored. The Mi-24 is therefore also known as the Flying Tank or Crocodile. So far about 2000 units in all variants have been produced, about 600 of which have been exported to 40 countries.
