The VW Corrado, whose name is derived from the Spanish word correr (to run), was presented for the first time in 1988. This fastest production VW sports coupé to date was remarkable primarily for its shape and for its rear spoiler, which in the European model was raised automatically at 120 km/h and lowered again at 20 km/h. There were numerous tuning possibilities for the Corrado, which made it very popular with a younger clientele. After the works holidays in 1991 these models were shown in Germany with a 16V and also a VR6 power unit. The interior of the Corrado in particular had been given an individual design, as it previously had too many similarities to the Passat. Thanks to a Plus chassis, the VR6 offered almost optimum road holding and therefore really sporty driving. In addition the features supplied as standard were unusual at that time, including ABS, power steering, height-adjustable seats. Die cast details: Opening hood and doors; Beautifully reproduced VR6-DOHC engine; Nicely rendered interior with folding bucket seat backs; Detailed chassis; and Steerable front wheels.
