The completely new generation of cars that had been developed under the works designation W 116 was launched in September 1972 as the new S-Class, which in future would include the top models from Mercedes-Benz. From both the technical and the stylistic points of view this top-of-the-range saloon represented a milestone in workmanship, handling characteristics and safety that hardly any other manufacturer could reach. First the Type 280 S came out, then the 280 SE and the 350 SE. These cars offered a level of performance, comfort, spaciousness, safety, reliability, perfection and quality that satisfied the highest requirements. These types were topped by the 450 SEL (4.5 liter engine) with its 225 bhp V8 engine that came out in March 1973 and impressed with its power and smooth running. The 450 SEL (S-Class (S) with injection engine (E) and long wheelbase (L)) offered a vehicle of world class standard and due to its size and roominess was often used as a company car. Die cast details: Boot, hood and all doors can be opened; Accurately modeled engine compartment; Woodgrained interior; and Flocked floor.
