The Japanese Navy's daring plan for a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor called for the use of an Advanced Expeditionary Force made up of 20 fleet submarines. These were mainly to provide a screen and diminish the numbers of any U.S. Navy force that attempted to reach the Japanese carrier group. However, 5 of these fleet submarines, I-16, I-18, I-20, I-22, and I-24, also carried 2-man Ko-hyoteki midget submarines tasked with penetrating the harbor defenses to make torpedo attacks. These midget submarines were launched, but none ever returned from their missions. About the Model: Fine details such as conning tower antenna and deck guns accurately reproduced. Brand new box art and painting guide clearly depict the Ko-hyoteki midget submarine carried by the I-16 and her sister ships. Perfect for display with other Waterline Series Japanese Navy warships, especially those that took part in the historic Pearl Harbor attack. | This plastic model kit requires plastic cement and paint for assembly, and they are sold separately. |
