Unique among the world's high performance helicopters is the turbo-powered H-43B Huskie, the first helicopter designed specifically to perform the local base-crash rescue mission of the USAF's Air Rescue Service. The Huskie's twin intermeshing rotors counter-rotate, eliminating the need for a tail rotor. All power is used directly in the main rotors, which gives the Huskie greater lift per horsepower than any other helicopter. A stable aircraft which virtually no operational limitiations, the Huskie has proven very versatile. The gas turbine engine requires no warmup, making the aircraft ideal for rescue work.
